Bluewaters Island project in Dubai
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, continues his effort to make Dubai a force to reckon with, by announcing a $ 1.6bn island development off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence, called The Bluewaters Island project. Connected to the mainland with a direct roadway from Shaikh Zayed Road, the destination will deploy a mono rail system that will transport visitors to the entertainment zone from the metro station. Alternatively, a pedestrian bridge will link the island to the JBR beachfront, while a cable car will ferry visitors to the entertainment piazza. It will be home to the world’s largest Ferris wheel, the 210-metre Dubai Eye. Also in the offing are dedicated retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment zones along with a luxury five-star hotel; making the project a complete tourist hotspot.
The island’s construction is set to commence in April, 2013, while work on Dubai Eye is scheduled for the second quarter of 2013. Hyundai Contracting and Starneth Engineering have been appointed primary contractors for the design and construction of Dubai Eye. A development by Meraas Holding.
