Timber Houses in Leis, Switzerland

Leis, which is situated 1,526 m above sea level, is the highest settlement occupied all year round in
the community of Vals. Today Leis has around 20 inhabitants. There is an inn, and two families tend the mountain meadows.
There is year-round access to Leis by road.

In 2009 Annalisa and Peter Zumthor built two timber houses, the Oberhus and the Unterhus. The Unterhus has four-and-a-half rooms and sleeps 4 to 5. With a total area of 150 m2, it extends across
three floors. All the rooms have breathtaking views of the mountain landscape. The Türmlihus, which will take in its first guests in the autumn of 2013, has three-and-a-half rooms and
 sleeps 4. With a total area of 128 m2, it extends across three floors. Both houses have furniture and lighting by Baltensweiler, Rodolfo Dordoni, Antonio Citterio,
Warren Platner, Eero Saarinen, and Peter Zumthor. The kitchens are fully equipped, including an Italian coffee machine, steamer, fondue set,
and raclette grill. Each house also has a television, a DVD player, a radio with CD player and iPod and iPhone docks,
and free high-speed Wifi. Rucksacks, a water bottle and a thermos flask, binoculars, hiking sticks, a hiking map of Vals,
and the Handbuch Schweizer Alpen, which has detailed information on Alpine flora and fauna,
the region’s geology and weather, are all provided for guests’ convenience. The rates indicated are from CHF 3,500 to CHF 4,800 per week.
