The Tobin Clark Estate in California

Tobin Clark Estate, a Bay Area landmark, has hit the market. Located in Hillsborough, California, the luxurious mansion with a rich historical significance has been listed for $29 million. Known previously as “House-on-Hill", the home was originally built for bank heiress Celia Tobin Clark in the 1930′s. Over the years, the grand Tudor estate and has played host to such former U.S. Presidents as Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, King of Jordan, along with a list of world dignitaries that includes the King of Jordan, Hussein bin Talal, and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Set on a prime, six-acre parcel that overlooks San Francisco’s Lower Bay. Encompassing approximately 35,000-square-feet, the 30-room estate is comprised of a grand ballroom, library, music room, banquet facility, media room and gym, along with a total of 12 bedrooms and 13.5 baths. Beyond aesthetic finishes such as gold-gilt molding, vaulted ceilings and parquet floors that run throughout the mansion are incredibly lavish touches with equally remarkable histories; a chandelier found in master sitting room is Waterford crystal purchased from a descendant of 19th century actor Edmund Kean, while bookcases and finishes found in the library were done by the hand of master woodcarver Grinling Gibbons, of St. Paul’s Cathedral fame. In the gentleman’s cloak room, custom cupboards were designed to hold shaving mugs, and the black and white marble tiles that make up the flooring in the gallery were cut as parallelograms to create an illusionary effect that stretches down the hallway. The silver and wine, shielded by a pair of bank-vault doors, includes storage for roughly 1,700 bottles.
