Palazzo Portinari Salviati, Florence
Luxury apartments where the magic of history and culture meets the contemporary lifestyle.
Frescoes, works of art and the highest quality architectural and historical finishes. Wooden ceilings, large fireplaces and an impressive staircase. It couldn't have been otherwise inside a building that has gone through centuries of history and has hosted artists, sculptors, rulers and politicians. Hundreds of square meters of elegance and majesty in the heart of Florence, just a few steps away from the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, overlooking the Dome of Brunelleschi, between the prestigious Via del Corso and Piazza Duomo. The Portinari palace represents Florentine luxury at its finest, not only architecturally speaking, but also artistically and culturally.
Everybody knows about the love story between Dante and Beatrice, celebrated by the verses of the Supreme Poet, but not many people know that Palazzo Portinari in Florence was the setting of that love story. At the street number 6 of Via del Corso, Dante spent endless hours looking at the windows of his beloved's palace. He stayed there in the hope of catching sight of the young girl that conquered his heart at first glance, when he was only 9 years old. 'Tanto gentile e tanto onesta pare' ("So gentle and so honest appears"), just a few of the many words dedicated by Dante to Beatrice Portinari, the graceful girl that lived unaware of the Poet's love and became an immortal symbol of purity thanks to his verses: she never spoke to him and he would have never dared something more than a simple glance. He had wonderful words for that young girl, and it is through those words that we can lose ourselves in her life's imagery, in the elegant rooms of her family palace, at the time of the Florentine cultural splendor. This cultural splendor still resonates in the magnificent rooms of Palazzo Portinari.
