Château Lambert, Rhone-Alpes in France
Between the villages of Saint-Amour and Fleurie, situated in the hilly Beaujolais countryside and the border of the Bourgogne, a magnificent typically 17th century mansion awaits you in the midst of its renowned vineyards. Built in 1690, the château was occupied by several noble families prior to becoming the residence of Claveisolles or Claveçon nuns around 1800, who lived there and provided religious instruction for the poorer children of the region. In 1811, Napoleon Ist, en route to Spain, arranged for a short stopover there. This is how Château Lambert, for a few nights, became an Imperial Residence! Around 1910, the estate was once again converted into private property and at the end of the 1980’s, was transformed into a charming hotel, which is today highly praised in numerous tourist guidebooks and on several websites.
